CAMBRIDGE, Massachusetts, September 29, 2026 — The MIT Center for Transportation & Logistics (MIT CTL) and Mecalux have launched a new executive programme focused on the practical application of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning in supply chain and warehouse decision-making.

Titled “Machine Learning & AI-Based Augmentation of Supply Chain Decision-Making,” the two-day programme has been developed for Mecalux customers and partners, with a focus on senior supply chain executives seeking to identify practical and high-value applications of AI within their organisations.

The inaugural edition will take place on October 1–2, 2026, at the MIT campus in Cambridge, Massachusetts, marking the first edition of what is planned as an ongoing executive programme.

Moving Beyond the AI Hype

The programme was jointly developed by Mecalux and researchers from the MIT Intelligent Logistics Systems Lab. Its focus is on helping organisations move beyond the current AI hype cycle and identify applications capable of delivering measurable business value.

Rather than focusing solely on AI technologies, the programme examines how artificial intelligence can support planning and operational decision-making across logistics and warehousing.

The executive sessions will be led by Matthias Winkenbach, Director of Research at MIT Center for Transportation & Logistics, together with researchers from the MIT Intelligent Logistics Systems Lab.

The curriculum combines lectures, real-world case studies and hands-on workshops. Participants will work on an Opportunity Brief to identify a high-value AI use case and develop a Pilot Charter outlining potential next steps for implementation within their organisations.

“Artificial intelligence is rapidly becoming a strategic capability for supply chain organisations, but success depends on understanding where it creates genuine value,” said Winkenbach.

According to Winkenbach, the programme aims to provide executives with decision-making tools to critically evaluate AI opportunities and transform promising ideas into clearly defined implementation projects.

International Group of Supply Chain Executives

The inaugural programme will bring together a select group of senior executives from companies operating across a range of industries, including retail, manufacturing, consumer goods, industrial equipment, packaging, healthcare, logistics and distribution.

Participants represent businesses across North America, Europe and Latin America, highlighting the international scope of the programme and the growing interest in AI applications across global supply chains.
